On a Sunday evening in Newark, New Jersey, the life of 25-year-old Dante Tyrell Kwame Whitaker was tragically cut short. On October 14, 2018, in the vicinity of West End and 18th Avenues in the city's Upper West Ward, Whitaker was fatally shot. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office launched a homicide investigation into the death of the young Black man, who was born on May 4, 1993.
