Ravel Trejo, a 32-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, May 29, 2021, in Paterson, New Jersey. At approximately 9:11 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting and found Trejo lying on the sidewalk of Northwest Street, behind 160 West Broadway, with apparent gunshot wounds. Medical personnel were dispatched to the scene and attempted to treat him, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the location.
Known to his friends as 'Rei,' Ravel Trejo was described as a kind, gentle, and down-to-earth person who was not involved in gangs or violence. He worked as a pharmacy technician at a CVS in the nearby town of Totowa. Those who knew him expressed shock at his death, stating that he was a positive individual who was known for spreading love and had no known enemies.
Friends remembered him as a 'genuine kind soul' and the 'opposite of dangerous,' making his violent death all the more tragic for the community.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and the Paterson Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case. Despite the ongoing investigation, there have been no arrests made in connection with Ravel Trejo's murder, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
