In the quiet shore town of Beach Haven, New Jersey, the life of 75-year-old Francoise Pitoy came to a brutal and tragic end. On September 29, 2021, she and her longtime partner, 87-year-old John 'Jack' Enders, were violently killed in their waterfront home. The grim discovery was made on October 3, 2021, after Pitoy's family grew concerned when they were unable to reach her and requested a welfare check.
Upon entering the residence, police found a horrific scene. Enders was discovered in a recliner, having been shot in the face and stabbed 51 times. Pitoy was found on a stairway landing, also having been shot in the face and stabbed 39 times. The cause of death for both was determined to be multiple stab wounds and gunshot wounds, with Enders also suffering from blunt force trauma.
The subsequent investigation swiftly pointed to a suspect close to the family: Sherry Lee Heffernan, Enders' daughter.
Authorities alleged that Heffernan was motivated by anger and greed after being cut out of her father's will. Surveillance footage captured a shadowy figure, later identified as Heffernan, arriving at the home in a large RV on the night of the murders. Evidence, including her cellphone records and footprints found at the scene, further implicated her in the crime.
Heffernan was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and weapons offenses. Throughout her trial, she maintained her innocence, claiming she was being framed. However, in March 2024, a jury found her guilty on all charges. Subsequently, Sherry Lee Heffernan was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of her father and Francoise Pitoy, ensuring she will spend the remainder of her life behind bars.
