In the fading afternoon light of October 22, 2021, tragedy struck in a Camden, New Jersey neighborhood. Lamont Demby, a 28-year-old male, found his life abruptly cut short in a burst of gunfire. The fatal encounter occurred around 3:21 p.m. near the intersection of Jackson Street and Warsaw Street. Responding officers discovered Demby suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services rushed Demby to Cooper University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead at 4:11 p.m. that same day. The sudden violence left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who remembered him as a loving individual.
In the days that followed, an intensive investigation was launched by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department.
Their efforts soon zeroed in on a suspect. On October 29, 2021, authorities announced that 19-year-old Michael Allen of Collingswood had been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Demby's death. The search for Allen extended beyond New Jersey, culminating in his arrest in Newport News, Virginia. Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended him, paving the way for his extradition to New Jersey to face the charges.
