In the winter of 2022, the life of Radrees Shaied Wilson, a 28-year-old Black/African American man from Newark, New Jersey, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of January 9th, violence erupted on Stuyvesant Avenue. Newark Police officers, responding to a report of shots fired at approximately 3:51 p.m., discovered Wilson in a driveway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 4:19 p.m.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the Newark Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. According to initial reports, Wilson was leaving a residence with two other individuals when an assailant approached and fired at him multiple times at point-blank range before fleeing the scene. The attack was described as an ambush.
In the days following the shooting, authorities announced that the investigation was active and ongoing. However, no arrests were immediately made in connection with the murder of Radrees Shaied Wilson. The case remains under the jurisdiction of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, and despite the passage of time, there have been no public announcements regarding the identification of any suspects or any arrests made in the case.
