In the early morning hours of January 9, 2022, the quiet of the Sycamore Ridge apartment complex in Pennsauken, New Jersey, was shattered by violence. At approximately 1:52 a.m., police responded to reports of a home invasion on the 3700 block of Herbert Avenue. Inside one of the apartments, they found 62-year-old Darlene Randall suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in Cherry Hill but succumbed to her injuries at 2:26 a.m. Neighbors, shaken by the event, described Randall as a friendly and loving grandmother.
The investigation into the senseless killing of Darlene Randall led authorities to two suspects. On January 12, 2022, just days after the incident, 18-year-old Joshua Johnson of Camden was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Newark. He was subsequently charged in connection with Randall's death.
The investigation continued, and several months later, on September 28, 2022, a second suspect was apprehended.
Iyonna Flowers, a 28-year-old woman from Camden City, was arrested by U.S. Marshals and charged with felony murder for her alleged role in the home invasion that resulted in Darlene Randall's death. According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, the charge of felony murder is applied when a death occurs during the commission of another serious crime. Both Johnson and Flowers were detained at the Camden County Jail following their arrests.
