Daquan Jamar Brown, a 33-year-old Black male affectionately known as 'Baby,' was a lifelong resident of Trenton, New Jersey. On the afternoon of Sunday, October 9, 2022, his life was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The city's Shot Spotter system detected multiple gunshots in the area of Kersey Alley shortly after 3 p.m., prompting a swift police response. Arriving officers discovered Brown lying on the ground, having sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
He was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, but his injury proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His death marked the fifteenth homicide in Trenton that year.
Born in Trenton on September 6, 1989, Daquan was educated in the city's public school system. He had been employed as a forklift operator for Premier Packaging before venturing into his own business. Known for his love of basketball, football, and his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers, he was a familiar face in his community. He also enjoyed bicycling, riding his motorcycle, and traveling. Those who knew him remember a man who was always dressed in the latest fashion and lived his life to the fullest.
The investigation into Daquan Brown's murder was handled by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department. Their efforts led to a significant development just over two weeks after the shooting. On October 25, 2022, authorities arrested 32-year-old Mack Williams, also a resident of Trenton. Williams was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force with assistance from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office. He was subsequently charged with murder and weapons offenses. The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office filed a motion to detain Williams pending his trial, marking a crucial step in the pursuit of justice for Daquan Brown and his grieving family.
