Kermit Fitzpatrick, a 30-year-old Michigan State Trooper, tragically lost his life on July 7, 1991, during a routine traffic stop on the Jeffries Freeway (I-96) in Detroit, Michigan. At approximately 8:30 a.m., Trooper Fitzpatrick pulled over a 1982 Blue Ford Mustang for a traffic violation near Joy Road.
