On a summer morning in Detroit, Michigan, the life of a dedicated state trooper was tragically cut short. On July 7, 1991, 30-year-old Kermit Fitzpatrick, a Michigan State Trooper, was conducting a routine traffic stop on the Jeffries Freeway. It was approximately 8:30 a.m. when he pulled over a Ford Mustang near Joy Road. As Trooper Fitzpatrick approached the vehicle, the driver, Steven Darius McGuire, opened fire with a. 22 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
