On the evening of July 14, 2000, Shynelle Marie Mason, a 21-year-old female Detroit Police Officer, was enjoying an off-duty evening with several female friends near a Mobil Mart station at Fenkell and Schaefer Streets in Detroit, MI. An encounter with three men, who initiated a conversation that the women did not wish to engage in, quickly escalated into a heated argument.
