Courtney Alan "Cortez" Smith, a 20-year-old Wayne State University football player, tragically lost his life on May 5, 2011, in Detroit, Michigan. Smith was fatally shot around 11:30 p.m. during an altercation in a parking lot near a nightclub at Larned and Shelby in downtown Detroit.
