On Friday, July 11, 2014, Sandra was found shot to death in a residence on Hoyt Street. The unexpected and violent nature of her death sent shockwaves through the community. The investigation into her death quickly focused on a single suspect, her 51-year-old boyfriend, Tom Lee Kerbuski of Muskegon Heights.
Shortly after the discovery of Sandra's body, police arrested Kerbuski in connection with her death. He was subsequently charged with open murder and held in the Muskegon County Jail.
