In the summer of 2014, a young mother from Detroit, Sahvon Davis, found her life tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence that stemmed from a dispute over a game of craps. A woman with model-good looks and a passion for styling hair, her future was stolen in an instant, leaving behind a grieving family and a young son who would have to grow up without his mother.
The tragic events began to unfold on a Wednesday near an abandoned house at the corner of Eaton and Stoepel, where an argument erupted during a craps game.
The disagreement escalated later that night when at least two men returned to the area armed with guns. They first shot and injured Sahvon's 19-year-old cousin, Derrick Davis, and another man, 28-year-old Arrow Jackson. The violence did not end there. The gunmen then drove a few blocks to the home of Sahvon's parents on Prairie Street. There, they unleashed a spray of bullets at the house and the car in which Sahvon was a passenger, with her young son in her arms.
Sahvon had been in the process of dropping off her child to rush to the hospital after hearing about the shooting of her cousin. As she held her son, a bullet struck her in the back of the head. A neighbor who lived across the street heard the gunshots and, despite the danger, ran to offer help, but it was too late. Sahvon Davis was gone. In the aftermath of the shooting, the Detroit Police Department began an investigation, appealing to the public for any witnesses to come forward with information. However, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Sahvon Davis. Her family was left to mourn a life taken too soon and to raise a little boy who witnessed the horrific death of his mother, while justice for her murder remains elusive.
