Darion Breckenridge, a 21-year-old African American man from Pontiac, Michigan, spent the last ordinary minutes of his life at home with his mother, the kind of small moment that doesn’t feel like a farewell until it already is. Not long after he walked out the door, gunfire cracked through the night near Linda Vista Drive and Valencia, and a black Chevrolet Impala came tearing to an abrupt stop when it struck a pole at the southeast corner of the intersection.
