In the spring of 2015, the life of Kenyetta Barnes, a 32-year-old Black mother of seven, was tragically cut short in her Pontiac, Michigan, home. On the evening of April 14th, an argument erupted between Barnes and her 21-year-old boyfriend, Akira McCray, in an upstairs bedroom of their residence on Shirley Street. The dispute escalated to a fatal conclusion when McCray produced a handgun and shot Barnes multiple times in the chest. As a result of the gunfire, she fell into her bedroom closet.
