It was in this climate of fear that Jason Raydell 'Scooter' Sutton-Richardson, a 25-year-old Black male, became another victim of the city's bloodshed. On August 4, 2015, Jason was found outside a club in Flint, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. His death was quickly ruled a homicide, sending ripples of grief through his circle of loved ones and the wider community.
Jason, a beloved husband and father of two, was remembered for his engaging personality and his recent commitment to furthering his education. He had just enrolled as a freshman at Kaplan University, a hopeful step toward a brighter future that was tragically cut short. He was a product of both the local Catholic and public school systems, and was known affectionately as 'Scooter' to his friends and family. His life was celebrated at a funeral service at the Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center before he was laid to rest in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery.
Despite the efforts of the Flint Police Department, who stated at the time that they did not believe the shooting was a random act, no arrests have ever been made in connection with Jason's murder.
