In the early morning hours of a Saturday in August 2015, a life was tragically cut short on the streets of Detroit. Amber Monroe, a 20-year-old Black transgender woman, was fatally shot as she was getting out of a vehicle near the intersection of 6 Mile and Woodward, in an area known as Palmer Park. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on August 8, 2015. Friends described Monroe as an outgoing and charismatic individual who had a love for dancing.
