In January 2016, the quiet community of Raisinville Township, Michigan, was shaken by the tragic death of 57-year-old Holly A. Lozon. On the afternoon of January 13th, firefighters responding to a house fire on Heiss Road made a grim discovery. Inside the smoke-filled home, they found the bodies of Holly and her 56-year-old husband, Gerard Lozon. A dog was also found deceased at the scene.
Investigators from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office soon began to unravel the heartbreaking
events, treating the case as a murder-suicide. It was determined that Holly Lozon had been shot to death by her husband, who then took his own life. While there was a small fire in the living room, authorities stated it likely did not contribute to their deaths. An in-home care worker who had arrived at the residence discovered the smoke and alerted emergency services.

In 2014, Holly had undergone what was expected to be a routine back surgery to remove bone spurs. However, a complication during the procedure left her paralyzed from the shoulders down.
