On August 12, 2016, 73-year-old Margaret Jean Sanford was found deceased in her Napoleon Township, Michigan, home. Concerned after not seeing her for several days, neighbors requested a welfare check at her Clarklake Road residence. Responding officers from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department could see an unresponsive woman inside the house, but their entry was blocked by her 62-year-old husband, Roger Sanford.
