On the evening of April 13, 2018, Brittany Sevrey, a 28-year-old White/Caucasian female, tragically lost her life in downtown Muskegon, Michigan. A registered nurse and mother of two, Brittany was sitting in a car with a colleague, 29-year-old Thomas Davis, in a parking lot near the LC Walker Arena. The two both worked at Mercy Health.
Suddenly, Brittany's estranged husband, 34-year-old Brandon Sevrey, approached the vehicle and opened fire. Brittany died at the scene from her injuries.
Thomas Davis was critically wounded and transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The nature of the relationship between Brittany and Thomas remains unclear to investigators.
Just a few months prior, in January 2018, Brittany had filed for divorce from Brandon after a six-year marriage. Court records show they had agreed to joint custody of their two young children, and there were no prior indications that the separation would lead to violence.
After the shooting, police quickly identified Brandon Sevrey as the suspect and proceeded to the couple's home in Muskegon Township. A search of the area commenced, and with the help of police dogs, Brandon's body was discovered in a wooded area behind the residence. He died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The police investigation concluded that Brandon Sevrey acted alone in the double murder-suicide.
