DeNate Lee, a 28-year-old Black male, was shot and killed on the evening of August 24, 2020, on the east side of Detroit. Lee was a passenger in a blue Dodge Charger near the intersection of Rossiter and Britain streets when shots were fired into the vehicle.
The driver of the Charger, in an attempt to get Lee to a hospital, was involved in a crash with a white GMC Envoy at Morang and Kelly roads. First responders arrived at the scene of the collision and pronounced DeNate Lee dead.
The driver of the Charger was injured in the accident and transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
In connection with the homicide, two arrests were made. Reginald Jesus Rolland, 23, of Eastpointe, was apprehended in Arkansas by the U.S. Marshals Service. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm. A second suspect, a 24-year-old man, was also arrested in Eastpointe by the Detroit Police Department's homicide unit with assistance from the U.S. Marshals.
