Shalaycia Mystique Miles, a 23-year-old woman from Flint, Michigan, died on Saturday, June 15, 2019. Her death was the result of a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of a nightclub. The tragic evening began as a birthday celebration for a family member at the former Club What's Next, located near the intersection of Pasadena Avenue and Clio Road.
An altercation broke out between Miles' group and another group of individuals in the parking lot.
The confrontation quickly escalated from punches being thrown to gunfire, with dozens of shots being fired. During the chaos, Miles was struck by three bullets, twice in the back and once in the forearm. In the immediate aftermath, her boyfriend and others put her into a car to rush her to Hurley Medical Center. However, while en route, the driver made a sharp turn, causing the vehicle to roll over and ejecting Miles. A passing motorist stopped to help and transported Miles and her boyfriend to McLaren-Flint hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of a suspect, Delano Deshawn Cummings, a 33-year-old man from Swartz Creek. Cummings was arrested and charged in connection with the death of Shalaycia Miles. In March 2022, a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder. In addition to the murder charge, Cummings was also convicted of two counts of felony firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was scheduled for sentencing on April 26 of that year.
