On the evening of October 24, 2019, Nyassinu Crowell, a 46-year-old male, was fatally shot in Detroit, Michigan, during an attempted armed robbery. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Hayes Street and Seven Mile Road on the city's east side. Crowell was sitting in a vehicle with a friend when two individuals approached them.
Surveillance footage from the area showed one assailant, armed with a long gun, moving towards the driver's side of the car, while the
second suspect approached the passenger's side. Crowell got out of the vehicle and attempted to disarm the individual with the long gun. In the ensuing struggle, the second assailant fired their weapon across the car, striking and fatally wounding Crowell.
Nyassinu Crowell was a father to 14 children. His family described him as a devoted father who would have given his attackers anything they had asked for. The Detroit Police Department opened a homicide investigation and released the surveillance footage to the public in an effort to identify the two suspects.
Despite the ongoing investigation and pleas from the family for information, no arrests have been made in the case. The individuals responsible for the death of Nyassinu Crowell remain at large.
