A promising life was tragically cut short in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 27, 2019, when 22-year-old Tayveon Donell Williams of Jackson, Michigan, was killed in a shooting at a house party in Lansing. The male victim, born on August 8, 1997, was a graduate of Jackson High School where he had been a stand-out basketball player.
The incident occurred at a residence on the 1700 block of West Miller Road. Williams was one of five people struck by gunfire during the party.
Victims were discovered both inside and outside the home. He was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The other four victims, who included an 18-year-old Lansing woman, a 22-year-old Jackson man, a 21-year-old Lansing man, and a 29-year-old Lansing woman, were also treated at area hospitals for their injuries.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Lansing Police Department stated that the event did not appear to be a random act of violence. Investigators believed the party and, by extension, the victims were targeted. Despite this initial assessment, law enforcement officials did not immediately identify any suspects or make any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting.
Lansing police began an investigation, seeking multiple suspects they believed to be involved. However, in the days and months that followed, there were no public announcements regarding arrests or significant breakthroughs in the case. The community was left seeking answers and justice for the young man whose life was violently taken. As of late 2025, the case remains unresolved, with no publicly identified suspects or arrests made in the shooting death of Tayveon Williams.
