Willie Wilborn, a 29-year-old man from Detroit, met a violent end on Halloween night in 2019, a chilling conclusion to a life previously entangled with the justice system. While in line at a gas station situated at Grand River Avenue and Southfield Road, he was fatally shot in the back of the head. The assailant, who fled the scene, was hauntingly described by authorities as wearing a clown mask.
This shocking event unfolded after Wilborn had been a free man, the charges of a brutal crime against him having been dismissed.
Just two years prior, Wilborn was at the center of a grim investigation into the death of his 24-year-old pregnant girlfriend, La'Diamond Meyers. Her body was discovered on June 28, 2017, inside a vacant house on Braile Street on Detroit's west side where the family had been staying. The scene was heartbreaking, as Meyers' four young children, ranging in age from 8 months to 5 years old, were found with her body. One of the children reportedly told a neighbor that their father had struck their mother with a broom and stabbed her.
Following the discovery, Willie Wilborn was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Meyers' death. Prosecutors alleged that a domestic dispute preceded the killing, resulting in Meyers sustaining blunt force trauma to the head. Despite the charges and the harrowing testimony of a child, a judge later dismissed the case against Wilborn, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
