Emanuel Jesus Hernandez, a 15-year-old male from Grand Rapids, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 7, 2019, in Wyoming, Michigan. The incident occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. when authorities responded to reports of a shooting. Officers discovered Hernandez in a vehicle at the intersection of Prairie Parkway and Burlingame Avenue SW with an apparent gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the shooting took place in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 1965 Prairie Parkway SW. The driver of the vehicle in which Hernandez was found was reportedly attempting to transport him to a hospital. While police did not believe the shooting was a random act, they had not identified a suspect or determined the relationship between the victim and the shooter or shooters in the immediate aftermath.
In connection with the investigation, the Wyoming Department of Public Safety executed a search warrant in the 1900 block of Prairie Parkway on the afternoon of the shooting. Three individuals fled the location as officers approached and were subsequently detained. These individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants and misdemeanor charges of disobeying lawful police orders. However, police stated they did not believe these individuals were connected to the homicide.
The family of Emanuel Hernandez pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for his death. As of the latest available online reports, no arrests have been made specifically in the homicide case, and the investigation remains ongoing. The Wyoming Police Department and Silent Observer have continued to ask for anyone with information to come forward.
