Jessica Ileen Quinones, a 35-year-old woman from Dallas, Texas, tragically lost her life on April 9, 2018, in Milton, Florida. Quinones, who was traveling with her 18-year-old daughter, Destiny Salia Snider, had stopped at a rest area off Interstate 10. The two were en route to Melbourne, Florida, to visit Quinones' sister. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when Quinones' estranged boyfriend, 46-year-old Larry Donell Stuart, arrived at the rest stop.
Witnesses reported that Stuart appeared to be searching for a specific vehicle. Upon locating Quinones and her daughter, Stuart approached their car, brandished a weapon, and shot both women. Quinones was pronounced dead at the scene, while Snider was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital with serious injuries. Stuart then turned the gun on himself, resulting in a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. The case was classified as a domestic violence incident. According to reports, Quinones had recently packed her belongings and was heading to Florida to live with her sisters, indicating she was attempting to leave Stuart. Neighbors and coworkers of the couple in Dallas expressed shock and disbelief, describing them as seemingly perfect together. Stuart had reportedly told a coworker earlier that day that he was "on his way to do something important," which tragically turned out to be tracking down Quinones.
The investigation revealed that Stuart had been either following or tracking Quinones and her daughter. Upon finding them at the rest stop, he carried out the murder-suicide. The incident was part of a troubling pattern of domestic violence-related murder-suicides in the area, with similar cases occurring in the preceding months. The State Attorney's Office was notified, and the investigation was conducted with the assistance of local law enforcement agencies.
This tragic event highlights the severe consequences of domestic violence and the importance of support systems for individuals attempting to escape abusive relationships. The community's response underscored the need for increased awareness and resources to prevent such incidents in the future.
