On February 13, 2024, Derrick Givings, a 42-year-old resident of Pompano Beach, Florida, was fatally shot in the 2600 block of Northwest Seventh Street. The incident occurred around 12:48 p.m. when Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) deputies responded to a ShotSpotter gunshot alert near Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest Seventh Street. Upon arrival, they found Givings outside a residence with gunshot wounds.
Givings was immediately rushed to Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue crews, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival at the hospital.
The investigation led by the BSO Homicide unit identified Patrice George, a 39-year-old woman and neighbor of Givings, as the suspect responsible for the shooting. George, who lives at the same address as the victim, was detained at the scene and subsequently arrested after being questioned by detectives. She has been charged with first-degree murder using a firearm and is being held without bond at the BSO Main Jail.
As of the current reports, the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Givings is survived by his father, Eugene Givings; his son, Derrick Givings, Jr.; several siblings; nephews; a niece; and great-nieces and a great-nephew.
