In the early morning hours of December 17, 2019, police responded to reports of shots fired in a Plymouth Township mobile home community. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of 37-year-old Christina Jones Salamay, a female, in the driver's seat of her minivan, which was still running. She had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The tragic discovery marked the beginning of an investigation into a devastating domestic incident that would leave a family shattered.
Shortly after
finding Christina, officers entered the nearby residence and found her estranged husband, 46-year-old James Salamay, also deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Investigators quickly determined that James had shot and killed Christina before taking his own life in a murder-suicide. Evidence suggested that the couple, who were in the process of a divorce and experiencing financial difficulties, had a deeply troubled relationship.
At the time of her death, Christina had been separated from her husband. It was reported that she had gone to the home that morning because James told her he had money for their children. This lure culminated in the violent act that ended both their lives. The couple left behind three children, a 17-year-old from Christina's previous marriage, and two younger children, ages 13 and 12, from their union. With James Salamay identified as the perpetrator who then took his own life, the investigation concluded without any arrests.
