In the early hours of January 14, 2021, Yousef Al-Gabri, a 43-year-old man working as an Uber driver in Detroit, Michigan, met a tragic and violent end. At approximately 2:08 a.m., a call was placed for an Uber to a location on Wisconsin Street. When Al-Gabri arrived, he was ambushed and shot multiple times. The first indication of trouble came when police were dispatched at 2:32 a.m.
to a report of an SUV that had crashed into the front porch of a home on the same street.
First responders found Al-Gabri inside the vehicle and transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation that followed uncovered a calculated plot. Authorities allege that 25-year-old Carlous Skipper Jr. used a phone with a different name to summon the Uber with the intent to harm the driver.
Following an investigation by the Detroit Police Department, Carlous Skipper Jr. was identified as the primary suspect and was arrested on March 9, 2021. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged Skipper with first-degree murder and felony firearm. He was arraigned in the 36th District Court and remanded to jail. Court proceedings, including a probable cause conference and a preliminary examination, were scheduled for later in March of that year.
