In the quiet community of Standish, Michigan, the life of 45-year-old Allan J. Kiczenski Jr., a White male, was tragically cut short on July 15, 2021. The distressing events unfolded when deputies from the Arenac County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence for what was reported as a domestic violence incident. Upon their arrival, they were met with a grim and volatile situation.
Inside the home, law enforcement discovered Mr.
Kiczenski, who had already succumbed to fatal injuries. Another man, identified as Joshua I. Smith, was also present in the house but refused to surrender to the authorities. This initiated a tense standoff that would last for approximately 12 hours as officers worked to negotiate a peaceful resolution.
The prolonged standoff ultimately concluded in further tragedy. As the situation reached its critical end, Joshua I. Smith took his own life. The investigation into the incident determined that the deaths of the two men were the result of a murder-suicide, with Smith being the perpetrator in Kiczenski's death. Due to the nature of the event, with the suspect also deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the death of Allan J. Kiczenski Jr.
