In the late afternoon of March 14, 2022, a trip to a Wyoming, Michigan, Walmart ended in tragedy for 29-year-old LaVail Dwayne Walker Sr., a Black male. Walker was at the store on 54th Street to drop off the wife of Tyray Daquion Holliday when a fatal confrontation occurred in the parking lot.
Holliday, who was also present at the location, claimed he believed Walker was armed. As Walker exited his vehicle with his hand in his pocket, Holliday drew a weapon and fired. Walker attempted to flee the scene, but Holliday fired a second shot, which proved to be fatal.
Authorities quickly identified 27-year-old Tyray Daquion Holliday as the suspected shooter, and he was subsequently arrested. He faced charges of open murder, carrying a concealed weapon, and felony firearm for his role in Walker's death.
During the investigation, Holliday admitted to investigators that he did not actually see a weapon on Walker and that there had been no prior threat from him. Holliday later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and a felony firearm charge. His sentencing was scheduled for October 2022.
