On the afternoon of February 10, 2023, a violent disturbance erupted at an apartment complex in Wyoming, Michigan. The incident began as a domestic dispute involving multiple individuals inside a third-floor unit located within the 2200 block of Michael Avenue Southwest, situated behind the Wyoming Police Department near Cleveland Avenue Southwest. As the conflict escalated, the altercation spilled out of the apartment and into the surrounding area, leading to gunfire that alarmed the neighborhood and prompted an immediate law enforcement response.
Officers patrolling nearby heard the shots fired around 1:15 p.m. and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that three individuals had been injured during the chaos. One of the victims, identified as Devin McDonald, a 30-year-old Black male, was found suffering from fatal gunshot wounds outside the building. Despite the arrival of emergency services, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other victims were also injured during the melee. Police reported that one female sustained a gunshot wound, while another female suffered non-life-threatening injuries related to the physical altercation but was not shot. Both survivors were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The severity of the violence caused a significant disruption to the community, with nearby Godfrey Elementary School entering a soft lockdown as a precautionary measure while authorities secured the perimeter.
Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect fleeing the area on foot immediately following the shooting. He was observed running through a small wooded section toward a residence on Godfrey Avenue Southwest. Law enforcement officers, including K-9 units, conducted an extensive search of the vicinity, but the suspect managed to evade immediate capture. In the days following the homicide, investigators continued to interview witnesses and analyze evidence, yet public reports indicated that no arrests had been made in connection with the death. The investigation remained active as detectives sought to determine the specific involvement of all parties present during the dispute.
