In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in Flint, Michigan, a senseless act of violence tragically cut short the life of Tanya L. Boyland. On June 1, 2022, the 40-year-old Black female was at her home on E. Foss Avenue when gunfire erupted just after midnight. Responding officers discovered a grim scene; Boyland had been fatally shot. The tragedy was compounded by the fact that her young child was also struck by the gunfire.
Fortunately, the child's injuries were not life-threatening and they were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Tanya L. Boyland was a lifelong resident of Flint. She was educated in the Flint Community School System and was remembered by friends as a caring individual. At the time of her death, she was employed as a bus aide for the New Standard Academy. Her life was characterized by her love for her family, and she enjoyed spending her time with them, listening to music, and playing cards. Her sudden and violent death left her family and community in mourning.
In the wake of the shooting, the Flint Major Case Unit and the Michigan State Police launched an investigation into Boyland's death. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible. Despite their efforts and the passage of time, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the murder of Tanya L. Boyland. The case remains an open and active investigation, leaving a family without answers and a community still seeking justice for a life taken too soon.
