Raymond Davis was a loved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend who was known to have positively impacted the many people he met. His family and community in Pontiac, Michigan, would later remember him as someone they would miss dearly. In the summer of 2022, the 45-year-old Black man’s life was cut short by gunfire.
On the morning of Monday, June 6, 2022, sheriff's deputies responded to a report of gunshots at the North Hill Farms apartment complex in Pontiac.
Around 6 a.m., they arrived to find Raymond Davis lying in a parking lot near Cherry Hill Drive and West Fairmount Avenue. He had been shot multiple times. Emergency personnel attempted lifesaving procedures, but Davis was pronounced dead at a local hospital. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide. At the scene, investigators recovered 26 shell casings.
The investigation progressed rapidly. Authorities learned that Davis and a suspect had reportedly been in an argument shortly before the shooting. Less than three hours after Davis was found, police arrested a man near East Pike and Woodward Avenue in connection with the killing. The suspect was identified as Jaydrian Ju Wan Munson, a 38-year-old man from Pontiac.
A few days later, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office charged Munson with first-degree premeditated murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and two counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Records showed that Munson had prior convictions for domestic violence, assault and battery, and carrying a concealed weapon.
On January 9, 2023, after a preliminary examination was held in district court, a judge determined there was enough evidence for the case to proceed. Jaydrian Munson’s case was bound over to the Oakland County Circuit Court for a possible trial. As of January 2023, the case was pending in circuit court.
