In the winter of 2022, the life of 21-year-old Jonai Harrison of River Rouge was tragically cut short. A relative reported him missing on Friday, December 9, 2022, sparking concern for his welfare. The search for the young man came to a grim conclusion the following week. On Thursday, December 15, police were called to the area of West Pleasant and I-75 in Detroit.
There, they discovered Harrison's body, bearing multiple gunshot wounds to his body and neck.
Investigators believe that Harrison was fatally shot on Thursday, December 8, the day before he was officially reported missing. It is alleged that after he was killed, his body was moved to the location where it was later found. The investigation into his death was a collaborative effort between the Detroit and Ecorse Police Departments, which ultimately led them to two teenage suspects.
In January of 2023, the investigation culminated in arrests. On January 11, police apprehended 17-year-old Marcell Carter of River Rouge. A week later, on January 18, they arrested Dshaun Miller, who was 15 at the time, of Ecorse. Both teenagers were charged as adults in connection with Harrison's death.
Carter was charged with one count of felony murder. Miller faced charges of one count of felony murder and one count of felony firearm. Both were arraigned in 36th District Court on February 14, 2023, and were remanded to jail. A probable cause conference was scheduled for late February, with a preliminary examination set for March of the same year.
