Roman Ducksworth, Jr., a 27-year-old African-American military police officer, was tragically killed on April 9, 1962, in Taylorsville, Mississippi. Ducksworth was traveling home from his post in Fort Ritchie, Maryland, on emergency leave to be with his wife, Melva, who was experiencing complications during the birth of their sixth child.
