Conservation Officer Hilton H. "Ike" Shoemake, aged 56, tragically lost his life on December 26, 1990, in Pleasant Grove, Mississippi. Officer Shoemake was shot and killed by a poacher while confronting the individual who was spotlighting deer at approximately 10:30 PM in the Pleasant Grove area of Wayne County. The poacher used a .270 caliber rifle to commit the crime.
