On May 8, 1993, the community of Potts Camp, Mississippi, was shaken by the tragic death of its Chief of Police, Joe M. Thomason, a 43-year-old male. The incident unfolded at approximately 3:30 PM when Chief Thomason conducted a traffic stop on a drunk and reckless driver on US Highway 78, about two miles from the town.
