In the late hours of a summer night in Jackson, Mississippi, 34-year-old Terrell Riley’s life was tragically cut short. On August 2, 2014, Riley was at the Super 8 motel on Interstate 55 North when a vehicle pulled up. Gunfire erupted from the vehicle in a targeted drive-by shooting, and Riley was fatally wounded. The assailants fled the scene, leaving a chaotic and sorrowful situation behind.
The Jackson Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the homicide.
Their efforts led them to identify two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. An arrest warrant was issued for Demarcus 'Dee' Brown, who was believed to be the shooter. Another individual, Shannon Taylor, was also identified as a suspect and was apprehended by authorities.
Following a public call for assistance and the diligent work of law enforcement, Demarcus Brown surrendered to the Jackson Police Department. Both Brown and Taylor were subsequently charged in connection with the death of Terrell Riley. Brown faced a charge of murder, while Taylor was charged with accessory after the fact to murder, bringing a measure of progress in the quest for justice for Terrell Riley and his grieving loved ones.
