In the late summer of 2014, a family dispute in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving a nephew dead and his uncle facing a murder charge. On the morning of Saturday, August 23, 2014, 33-year-old Marcus James Hill was at a residence on Myers Road when an argument with his uncle, Robert Hill Jr., turned violent. The disagreement, reportedly over money, ended when Robert Hill Jr.
allegedly shot his nephew once in the chest.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Marcus Hill was transported to Anderson Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his gunshot wound. Investigators with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department quickly identified the victim's 51-year-old uncle as the suspect. Robert Hill Jr. was arrested and subsequently charged with the murder of his nephew.
Authorities believe a handgun was used in the shooting, and a weapon was recovered at the scene for analysis. Following his arrest, Robert Hill Jr. was taken to the Lauderdale County Detention Facility. His bond was set at $100,000 as the investigation into his nephew's death continued, with the evidence set to be presented to a grand jury. Services for Marcus Hill were held the following Thursday at Galilee Baptist Church in Topton, and he was laid to rest in Mt. Cephus Cemetery.
