Johnnie L. Mosley, a 64-year-old man from Lauderdale, Mississippi, was fatally shot on Christmas Eve of 2024. The incident also resulted in the deaths of two other individuals, 48-year-old Shunda Faye Brown of the Porterville community and 15-year-old Treyvone Young, a student at Northeast Lauderdale. Young was just one day shy of his sixteenth birthday.
Following the shooting, all three victims were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where they ultimately succumbed to their injuries. Johnnie Mosley passed away on Friday, December 26, 2024.
Authorities have arrested 50-year-old Joseph Spinx of Toomsuba in connection with the killings. He was initially charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. However, after the passing of all three victims, the charges against Spinx were upgraded to three counts of murder. At the time of the incident, Spinx was reportedly out on bond for felony DUI charges. His bond has since been revoked, and he remains in custody at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.
Law enforcement officials have indicated that there may be another person of interest who could be involved in the shooting. The investigation into the triple homicide is ongoing. Funeral services for Johnnie Mosley were held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Lauderdale, with his burial following in the church cemetery.
