The events leading to the fatal confrontation began the day before, when Willie Taylor
hid a child's bicycle to prevent the youngster from riding it in the street. This action led to an argument between Willie Taylor and his nephew's sister and niece. The nephew, Dante O'Bryan Taylor, was informed of the disagreement and responded by sending threatening text messages to his uncle. The following day, Dante Taylor, armed with a handgun, went to a family member's house. When Willie Taylor arrived later, a confrontation ensued. Witnesses reported that as Willie Taylor raised his fists, Dante Taylor pulled out his gun and shot him in the abdomen.
Following the shooting, Dante Taylor fled the scene as family members attempted to call for help. He later disposed of the handgun and deleted the incriminating text messages he had sent to his uncle.
