On the night of January 25, 2015, a dispute stemming from a drug transaction in Jackson, Mississippi, tragically ended the life of 24-year-old Jerrell Brown. The events of that evening unfolded after Brown purchased ecstasy pills and marijuana from Christopher Wise at the apartment of an acquaintance, Marcus Ware. Dissatisfied with the potency of the pills, Brown indicated he would be returning to the apartment.
Later that night, police responded to a scene where they discovered Brown
deceased in the driver's seat of his white car, which was still running with the driver's side door ajar. He had been shot twice in the back from a distant or intermediate range. A passenger was found asleep in the car, and a holstered gun was located on the driver's side floorboard.
The subsequent investigation led to the indictment of Christopher Wise for the murder of Jerrell Brown on June 26, 2015. During the trial in the Hinds County Circuit Court, testimony from Marcus Ware revealed that Wise had called him shortly after the incident and confessed to shooting Brown, implying that Brown had attempted to rob him. Wise's defense claimed he acted in self-defense, but the physical evidence presented by the prosecution contradicted his version of events.
Ultimately, a jury convicted Christopher Wise of manslaughter. He was subsequently sentenced to serve twenty years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for his role in the death of Jerrell Brown.
