In the early morning hours of April 2, 2015, the life of 32-year-old JC Miller was tragically cut short in a burst of violence outside a Clarksdale, Mississippi nightclub. The incident, which also resulted in the death of 29-year-old Anthony Stevenson, unfolded in the parking lot of Club Deuce 2 on North State Street, shattering the ordinary rhythm of the small Delta town.
What began as a heated verbal argument between Miller and another man, Anthony Edtrel Giles, quickly escalated into a physical altercation. During the confrontation, Giles would later claim to authorities, Miller had threatened him and swung a liquor bottle. This perceived threat led Giles to pull out a firearm, and the ensuing gunshots would leave Miller dead at the scene. Stevenson was also fatally wounded during the incident and was discovered behind the club; he later died from his injuries at a local hospital. The sudden eruption of violence left the community in shock and mourning the loss of two of its own.
The Clarksdale Police Department launched an investigation into the double homicide, and their efforts soon pointed toward Anthony Edtrel Giles as the primary suspect.
