In the late summer of 2016, the community of Corinth, Mississippi, was shaken by the violent death of one of its own. On September 3, 2016, 44-year-old Scotty Settlemires, a male resident known for his love of fishing and family, was fatally shot at his home. The incident occurred in the afternoon, around 1 p.m., in the 800 block of County Road 600 in Alcorn County. According to the Alcorn County Sheriff's Office, the assailants fired multiple shots both inside and outside the residence, striking Settlemires several times. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide led authorities to three suspects from Corinth. Two young men, 19-year-old Kenji D. Harris and 21-year-old Eareon Q. Williams, were arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting. A third individual, 34-year-old Becky L. Krech, was also taken into custody and charged with accessory after the fact to murder. The arrests brought a small measure of relief to a community seeking justice for the untimely death of Settlemires, a man remembered as a beloved father, son, and grandfather. His funeral was held at the Jesus Name Community Church, where friends and family gathered to mourn their loss.
