In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Quitman, Mississippi, the life of Bruce O'Bryant Dear was tragically cut short. On September 11, 2016, the 31-year-old male, known to some as 'Bryan' or 'BLove,' became the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident unfolded at approximately 12:23 a.m. when a call was made to 911 from a residence on Highway 511.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a vehicle on fire across from an apartment complex.
Investigators believe the motive for the attack was robbery. According to witness accounts, there were multiple suspects involved, including a driver and a shooter who fled the scene in a dark blue or black Pontiac GT. Despite the efforts of authorities who arrived at the scene, they were unable to rescue Dear.
Within a week of the incident, an arrest was made in connection with the murder. Kaeshawn Turner, who was 25 at the time and from Wayne County, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. He was brought before Quitman Municipal Judge Potuk and his bond was initially set at $50,000.
By October of that year, the charges against Turner were upgraded. In addition to the first-degree murder charge, for which the bond was increased to $125,000, he was also charged with armed robbery with a bond of $75,000 and aggravated assault with a bond of $50,000. Despite the arrest and the serious charges laid against Turner, the case has never proceeded to court. Consequently, the murder of Bruce O'Bryant Dear remains an open and unsolved case, leaving his family still seeking justice for their loss.
