In the autumn of 2016, a young man's life was cut short following a dispute at a gas station in Jackson, Mississippi. Deswaund Bell, a 21-year-old Black male, was at a Shell gas station on Terry Road on November 9, 2016, when an altercation broke out. The argument escalated tragically, resulting in Bell being shot multiple times. He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Jackson Police Department quickly identified a suspect in the fatal
shooting. Alex Lee Dixon, who was 26 years old at the time, became the focus of the investigation. A few days after the incident, Dixon made the decision to turn himself in to the authorities. The investigation determined that the shooting was the result of the fight that had occurred between Bell and Dixon.
Following his surrender, Alex Lee Dixon was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Deswaund Bell. The case proceeded through the legal system, and in June 2022, Dixon entered a guilty plea to the charge. As a result of his plea, he was sentenced to serve 35 years in prison. The court stipulated that he would not be eligible for early release. The Mississippi Department of Corrections is overseeing his sentence.
