In the late hours of a Thursday night in Jackson, Mississippi, the sounds of a casual game of dominoes were tragically interrupted by gunfire. On February 9, 2017, 23-year-old Marquis Garrett was at the Westwood Apartments on Robinson Road with his brother and friends when at least three armed individuals forced their way into the apartment in an attempted robbery. The ensuing chaos led to an exchange of gunfire between the intruders and the occupants of the apartment.

Marquis Garrett was critically injured during the shootout and was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, marking another homicide in a city grappling with violence. His brother, Dominique Garrett, also tragically lost his life at the scene.

Two of the alleged robbers were also killed during the violent exchange. One was identified as Jessie Kelly, and another as Jacarin Robinson. In the days following the incident, a man named Carl Harper was identified as a person of interest in the triple homicide. He turned himself in to the authorities for questioning, however, he was later released, and there have been no public reports of him being charged in connection with the case.

The investigation into the deadly home invasion suggested the involvement of a third accomplice who was not killed at the scene. However, there is no publicly available information regarding the identity, arrest, or prosecution of this third individual. The case remains a stark reminder of a violent night that claimed the lives of four young men.
