In the spring of 2017, the community of Tishomingo, Mississippi, was shaken by the death of one of its own law enforcement officers. Ronnie Russ Robinson, a 53-year-old White male, died on March 24, 2017. His death came just one day after a life-altering confession. Robinson, a long-serving officer with experience in various state, county, and city agencies, had been confronted with a serious allegation.
The events leading to his death began to unfold when a 17-year-old boy reported a disturbing encounter. The teenager told his parents that an officer, later identified as Robinson, had used the headlights of his unmarked vehicle to signal him to pull over. During this stop, Robinson molested the boy. The family promptly contacted the Alcorn County Sheriff's Department, launching an investigation. When questioned by authorities on March 23, Robinson admitted to the molestation of the teenager, and also confessed to other instances of misconduct involving minors.
The following day, Ronnie Russ Robinson was found deceased at his residence near Iuka, Mississippi. The cause of death was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In the wake of his suicide, investigators seized his laptop and continued to look into the full extent of his actions. It was also reported that this was not the first time allegations of this nature had been made against Robinson. Several years prior, he had been accused of inappropriately touching a boy at a local grocery store where he worked part-time, although no charges were filed in that instance. The investigation into the allegations against him continued even after his death.
