In the late summer of 2017, the life of 35-year-old Donald Dupree Taylor was tragically cut short. On Saturday, August 5, 2017, in Corinth, Mississippi, at the intersection of Meigg and Penn Streets, Taylor was killed by gunfire. A male, he was a husband and father, known to some by the nicknames 'DD' or 'Wu-Tang.' He had attended Corinth High School and worked as a cutter at Corinthian Furniture.
The investigation into his death was handled by Corinth Police Detectives Heather Russell
and Dell Green. Their work led to the arrest of Dominick Lane Thompson, who was 37 at the time of the verdict. Thompson was charged with the first-degree murder of Taylor and with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Kyle Robbins, Clay Cummings, and Megan French. In October 2020, an Alcorn County jury found Dominick Lane Thompson guilty on both charges.
During the sentencing, members of Donald Taylor's family were given the opportunity to speak. His mother, Pamela Taylor, described her son's killing as a 'cowardly act.' His sister, Ashley Taylor, spoke of her close relationship with her brother and her sorrow that her own children would never get to know him. Brenda Taylor, his widow, expressed that while she wanted to hate Thompson for what he had done, she had forgiven him. Circuit Court Judge Kelly Mims sentenced Thompson to life in prison for the murder and a concurrent ten years for the firearm charge. Due to his status as a habitual offender, Thompson will not be eligible for release.
